Special Adviser to Governor of Imo State on Project Monitoring, Prince Macdonald Akano has been arrested.

Akano was arrested and detained by men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on allegations of connection with the N458m bribe saga that triggered the impeachment of former Deputy Governor of the state, Sir Jude Agbaso by members of the Imo State House of Assembly.

The N458m was eventually traced to two foreign accounts belonging to JPROS International, whose Managing Director is Mr. Joseph Dina, the man alleged to have paid the bribe to Agbaso. Akano is reported to be the company’s highest shareholder.

Commissioner for Information, Strategy, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Chinedu Offor has already confirmed the arrest, lamenting that the governor’s aide has been unlawfully detained by EFCC for about 10 days without trial.

Offor said the state was alarmed by the unlawful detention and has called for his immediate release if no case is established against him. He charged EFCC to charge him to court if he is found guilty of any crime, or release him immediately,  as continued detention without trial constitutes a breach on Akano’s fundamental human rights.
