The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has approved the use of AstraZeneca Vaccine for use in Nigeria, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, its Director-General, has said.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Adeyeye said NAFDAC’s safety committee began an evaluation of the vaccine immediately after the agency received the dossier of the vaccine about a week ago.
The evaluation result showed that the vaccine is effective against the United Kingdom variant of the virus which has been reported in Nigeria and that it could be at between two to eight degrees Centigrade, Adeyeye said.
She added that three more vaccines are currently being evaluated in Nigeria, in addition to more than 30 herbal medicines being reviewed.
According to her, the South African variant of Covid-19 has not been detected in Nigeria.
