Nigeria on Friday recorded the highest single-day Covid-19 infection rate since the outbreak of the pandemic, the government announced.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control announced that the country recorded 796  new cases, recorded in 15 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The statement shows that the FCT led with 258, followed closely by Lagos with 248.

The all-time high figure came as the NCDC has been warning of a resurgence of the pandemic, as Nigerians disregard most of the protocols for fighting the virus.

The new figures have raised the country’s official total infection number to 72,140, with 1, 190 deaths and 65,722 patients discharged.

“In the last two weeks, our surveillance system has recorded a sharp increase in #COVID19 cases across the country,” NCDC said.

“We urge members of the public to #TakeResponsibility by adhering to ALL public health and safety measures.

“#COVID19 outbreak is not over anywhere until it is over everywhere,” the centre said.
