Unidentified gunmen have kidnapped a member representing Nguroje Constituency in the Taraba House of Assembly, Bashir Mohammed.
A family source said the lawmaker was kidnapped from his house, which is located behind SSS office area of Jalingo at about 1. 30. am Wednesday by the gunmen.
Mohammed is the Chairman of the House Committee on Information.
At the time of filing this story, the gunmen were yet to contact the family, according to the source.
The gunmen, numbering over 10, were said to have invaded Mohammed’s house and began to shoot sporadically for over 45 minutes before kidnapping the lawmaker.
The source said that none of the family members was hurt, adding that the kidnappers forced the lawmaker into one of the two vehicles used by them.
Kidnappers now prowl every nook and cranny of Nigeria, the neighbourhoods, highways, farms, schools and other places, kidnapping people for ransom.
Mohammed’s kidnap came a day after gunmen dressed in military attire kidnapped two teachers from a school in the Ohorhe community, Uvwie council area of Delta state, on Tuesday.
The teachers were kidnapped from Ohorhe Secondary School.
Eyewitnesses said the four kidnappers, said to be carrying sophisticated weapons, gained entrance into the school’s premises in a gold-coloured Highlander SUV, hovered in the school compound for over 15 minutes, before storming into one of the staff rooms and abducted the teachers.
Authorities of the school were said to have assumed that the gang members were military personnel.
