Nigeria may face scarcity of petrol as oil industry workers’ union calls for a strike.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, which groups the white-collar workers in the oil and gas industry, on Monday, ordered its members to suspend operations.

The order was issued in a letter, dated, and Lumumba Okugbawa, the General Secretary of PENGASSAN, signed the letter, dated November 8, 2020, which issued the order to the members. The letter was copied to the Central Working Committee members of the association, the body responsible for decision making in the group.

PENGASSAN is protesting against the government’s inability to resolve differences between them the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.

Nigeria, Africa’s leading oil-producing nation often suffers a perennial shortage of refined petroleum products, usually occasioned by strike actions by PENGASSAN, or its junior counterpart, the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers of Nigeria.
