University of Lagos Governing Council on Tuesday confirmed Folasade Ogunsola as the acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

This makes her the first woman to occupy this position in the 58 years of the institution.

The Governing Council was led by newly appointed Chairman, John Momoh, who led a virtual meeting for the VC’s confirmation.

UNILAG has been enmeshed in a leadership crisis that began with the sacking of the former VC, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe by the Governing Council led by its former chair, Wale Babalakin. The purported sacking had raised widespread protests.

President Muhammadu Buhari intervened in the crisis by ordering Babalakin and Ogundipe, and asked the varsity’s Senate to nominate a new Acting VC, and appointed Momoh acting Council chair.

The next step in the resolution of crisis rocking the institution would be the inauguration on Wednesday (today) of a seven-member Visitation Panel appointed by the President to investigate allegations thrown up during the crisis.
