Operatives of the Lagos State police command have arrested 620 persons, including nightclub nude dancers and a clergyman for allegedly violating the lockdown and social distancing order of the state government.
Lagos State police spokesman, Bala Elkana, who made the disclosure yesterday said that on April 21, at about 8:00 a.m., acting on information, operatives from Denton Police Station arrested 95 inter-states travellers at Bhojson area, Ebute Metta in seven commercial buses. The buses were impounded, while the drivers and passengers were charged to a mobile court and sentenced accordingly.
“In addition, 211 violators of the lockdown order were arrested in different parts of the state and also charged to court”, he said adding that “on April 24, at about 1:30 a.m., acting on credible intelligence, operatives from Idimu Police Station arrested 39 suspects in a hotel at Idimu for clubbing and striptease. This is in total violation of the lockdown order and social distancing regulations.
Meanwhile, a Mobile Court sitting at the Eagle Square in Abuja, the nation’s capital, has convicted five clerics, among them three Imams and two pastors for violating the presidential order over shutting down of the Federal Capital Territory. They were convicted by the court’s presiding magistrate, Idayat Akonni, who sentenced them to one-month imprisonment. Magistrate Akonni, however, gave them N5,000 option of fine in addition to supervised community service for one day.
The convicted persons include Imam Abdullahi Mohammed of Gwarinpa Estate, Imam Suleiman Idris of Mobi close, Area 11, Garki and Deputy Imam Useni Umar of the same address. Others are Pastor Phillips Olumbori of Celestial Church of Christ, Lugbe and Rev Moses Chinedu of Mercy City Gospel Centre, Aco Estate, Lugbe.
