An Osogbo Chief Magistrate’s Court in Osun State, yesterday, ordered the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, to appear before it over an alleged assault of a fellow monarch, the Agbowu of Ogbaagba, Oba Dhikrulahi Akinropo, during a peace meeting recently.
The Oluwo had been accused by Oba Akinropo of descending on him and beating him during a peace meeting convened on February 14, this year by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 11, Mr. Bashir Makama, in his office in Osogbo.
But the Oluwo had denied punching Oba Akinropo, claiming that they only had an altercation. The meeting was called to settle land disputes between the Oluwo and other monarchs in Iwo zone of the state.
However, the Osun Traditional Council suspended the Oluwo for six months over the development.
Not satisfied with the suspension of the Oluwo, Oba Akinropo approached the court and filed an application for it to order the Oluwo to appear for alleged battery and assault.
Oba Akinropo’ s Counsel, Mr. Soji Oyetayo, yesterday, furnished the court with a motion ex-parte to compel the Oluwo’s appearance to stand his trial.
The Presiding Magistrate, Olusegun Ayilara, granted the application and ordered that the Oluwo appear before him. Ayilara also ordered that Oba Akanbi should be put on notice before a date would be fixed for hearing of the matter.
