A very prominent Nigerian from the northern part of the country, Shettima Ali Monguno, who once served the country as a minister, has been kidnapped.

The 87-year old, who hails from Borno State, was abducted by yet-to-be-identified gunmen just after leaving a mosque in Mafoni Ward, Maiduguri, where he had gone to observe the Friday prayers.

His kidnap is coming just few days after the Joint Military Task Force in the North warned that the Boko Haram sect had concluded plans to begin with kidnapping of citizens for ransom.

Mr. Monguno, a politician of note, analyst and educationist, has been an ardent supporter of the clamour for a better country.

The kidnappers are yet to make contact with anyone concerning their victim, who was the first Petroleum Minister and pioneered oil exploration in the Chad basin.

He is known to have sold his house in Abuja and used the proceed to build a female hostel for University of Maiduguri, an institution to which he also donated all his books some years ago; and since then, he has never been linked with any property apart from the one he currently resides in, near the State Government House
