President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday in Abuja ordered the service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to deal ruthlessly with armed bandits terrorizing various parts of the country. Bandits have laid siege to various parts of the country particularly Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina and Kaduna States, wrecking havocs and sending many Nigerians to their early graves.
However, Buhari who returned to Nigeria on Tuesday night from trips to Jordan and United Arab Emirates (UAE), convoked a security council meeting in the Presidential Villa over the worsening security crisis bedeviling various parts of the country and instructed service chiefs to be ruthless in dealing with the bandits.
Buhari had earlier condemned the recent violence in Kaduna State, which culminated in the death of no fewer than 20 residents of Adara Community. He stated this in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu in Abuja, saying: “These unfortunate deaths are the latest incident between the Adara and Fulani people in the state, who have a long history of mistrust among themselves.”
The President, who sued for peace, however, decried the prevailing culture of an-eye-for-an-eye that has fueled several attacks and reprisals between the two communities at different times, suffering casualties in Kajuru and Kachia local government areas of the state.
