The enmity between ex-band mates Innocent Ujah Idia popularly known as 2Face and Amedu Augustine Obiabo popularly known as Blackface has not yet been finally resolved, judging by the latter’s recent comments on his absence at the internationally celebrated wedding of the former.
The duo began Platashun Boiz in the 90s after their meeting at the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu, and they were later joined by Richard Chibuzor Orji, Faze. Plantashun Boiz split up after successfully releasing two albums, Body and Soul (2000) and Sold Out (2003), containing a number of hit tracks.
However, more than a decade later, 2Face and Blackface are so distant that Blackface was missing at 2face’s Dubai wedding, despite that both were already friends at the time when the couple met and despite that a host of other entertainment industry celebrities were in attendance.
In contrast, though, Faze was not only in attendance but was also one of the groomsmen.
Asked by a Twitter fan to explain why he was absent at his friend’s wedding, Blackface’s answer confirmed widespread notion that both have still not totally mended their differences.
“I no dey go where I no dey invited!” Blackface said in local language, Pidgin. “But I wish them all they wish themselves!”
2Face and Blackface notoriously disagreed over the hit track, African Queen, which undoubtedly contributed to 2Face’s achievements after the split. Blackface claimed to be a co-owner of the song and that it was produced without his consent. He then went ahead to release his own reggae-flavour version of the song. Only recently, while granting an interview to an online medium, he insisted that 2Face must pay him his percentage of the earnings from African Queen.
