The Federal House of Representative is planning to hold a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan to discuss continued attacks in the North by terrorist groups in the country, led by the Boko Haram Islamist sect.
On Tuesday, it directed its joint Public Safety and National Security, Army, Police and Defence to engage the Presidency and report to the lower chamber within four weeks.
The resolution was reached after discussions on a motion sponsored by Ibrahim Olaifa, who lamented that the terror groups have stepped up their dastardly activities especially in Kano and Borno states.
Olaifa, lead the debate, observed that thousands of innocent Nigerians have been killed in the last three years courtesy of gun and bomb attacks by the terrorists.
He called for the intervention of the Federal House of Representatives, urging the Federal Government to reconsider its refusal to grant amnesty to the group.
“The president claimed they are ghosts while prominent people from the North said they are not,” he said. “Besides, even if we have to spend money for these people, let us do so since they are part of Nigeria and are Nigerians.”
