President Goodluck Jonathan has condemned in strong terms the bomb blasts in Kano, which is believed to have cost over 60 lives. A statement from the President’s office posted on his website, quoted Jonathan describing the attack as barbaric and warning that the incident will not deter the Federal Government from its strong-willed determination to overcome those who do not mean well for this nation. He said the Federal Government will not be stampeded, for any reason whatsoever, into abandoning its unrelenting war against terrorists in the country.
The President reassured Nigerians and foreigners in the country that the Nigerian Government will continue to do all that is required to ensure the safety of lives and property, including continued collaboration with local and international partners and stakeholders to check the menace of terrorism.
President Jonathan commiserated with the victims of the Kano explosions, their families and friends, and assured the Kano State government of the Federal Government’s continued support.
In another development, the President restated his administration’s resolve to the fight against corruption and recovery of all ill-gotten wealth to ensure the principles of good governance and successful implementation of the National Transformation Agenda.
According to him, the ongoing reforms of the Federal Government would not only help achieve long term development objectives as a nation, it would also engender better and more fulfilled life for all Nigerians and improvement in international image of the country.
Jonathan, who spoke at the Economist Magazine’s Nigeria Summit 2013 which opened Tuesday in Lagos, noted that the transformation agenda of his administration remains an onerous task that would require the support of all Nigerians, stressing that the creation of a politically stable environment as the bedrock for economic and social progress was central to the success of the Transformation Agenda.
