Two days after two UNIOSUN students identified as as Kazeem Adesola and Ibrahim Ajao, were hospitalised after sustaining gunshot wounds fired by policemen from the headquarters of Zone 11 of the Nigerian Police Force controlling Osun, Oyo and Ondo states, the school authorities have declared a holiday.
The declaration was announced by the Acting Registrar of the university, Shittu Gafar, who said in a statement that the management consulted with the students’ leadership before the decision to declare a mid-semester break was reached.
“We thank God for taking full control of the ugly incident of police brutality against our students. The students are responding speedily. We also note the decisive action taken by the security agencies and the assurances to forestall future occurrence.” The Acting Registrar said in the statement.
Continuing, he added that; “To further calm frayed nerves, management and the leadership of our students have agreed that the university should proceed on a one week mid-semester break with effect from Monday, 23rd to Friday 27th January, 2017.
“All our students are implored to stay busy with their studies in their respective hostels.”
In a related development, a 100 level student of the Anatomy Department of the school identified as Feyisara also died Monday after a brief illness.
