Members of the Federal House of Representatives have urged the Federal Government to ensure equal distribution of the proposed N3bn grant for the   Nigerian film industries.

The resolution was reached after a robust debate on the motion, sponsored by Hon. Aminu Suleiman, who stressed the need for equity in the disbursement of the fund.

Other lawmakers who spoke in favour of the motion include Jerry Alagbaso, Samson Osagie, Rotimi Makinde and Leo Ogor.

Suleiman alleged that certain categories of practitioners in the film industry, such as Kallywood (Hausa film industry) and the Yoruba film industry were neglected in the disbursement of the N32 million fund earlier released by the Federal Government before the last general elections.

While speaking, Rotimi Makinde warned against undue discrimination in the disbursement of the fund to film practitioners, saying Nollywood represents all Nigerians.

On his part, Samson Osagie, the minority whip kicked against the proposed move, saying “As a responsible Parliament, we should not come here and encourage the Federal Government to be throwing money on project that did not follow due process.

House Deputy Leader, Leo Ogor argued that there should be no reason for such, since it has already been appropriated for in the budget.

Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha who presided the plenary, having called for voice vote from lawmakers on the floor, ruled in favour of the House majority.
