President of the Voice of Niger Delta, Hon. Ibimie Odimabo has called for drastic reduction in the influence of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) on the Federal Government, saying its unbridled power portends   problems for the polity.

He described the NGF as an illegal body not backed by the constitution but nevertheless continues to operate like the youth wing of a political party deciding what the president should or should not do.

Odimabo stated this while fielding questions from journalists in Abuja, saying the NGF is a cult organisation plotting to fight its leaders.

Commending the PDP for thwarting the leadership of the forum under Governor Rotimi Ameachi, he urged the party to move fast in caging those with “parochial” interests.

He equally urged support for Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar in ridding the Nigerian Judiciary of its rot. He said that the recent sack of two judges from the bench for misconduct should be the starting point of the much-awaited transformation of the Nigerian Judiciary because there are many who should not remain in the bench.

“Many people who are aware of the problems in the Nigerian Judiciary welcomed their sack as a pointer that the CJN can bite and has the gut to address misconduct and corruption in the system,” he said.

“I see the decision of the National Judicial Council to sack the two judges as a clear message to all judicial officers that they either shape in or leave.”

Odimabo further implored Nigerians to rally support for the CJN and the NJC to enable them investigate activities and conducts of several other judges, particularly those that served at election petition tribunals who saw their appointments as money-making opportunities
