Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Walid Jibrin has warned Chief Tony Anenih, his predecessor against his statement on the alleged impeachment threat against President Muhammadu Buhari.

Last week, Anenih had written a letter to the chairman of PDP caretaker committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, urging him to warn the party members in the Senate not to join issues with those calling for the President’s impeachment.

But Jibrin said Anenih’s warning was misplaced, saying there was no such threat from the PDP senators.

Jibrin issued the warning at a meeting of PDP BoT members in Abuja on Monday.

He cautioned elders and members of the party to be mindful of their utterances, particularly about issues relating to the polity.

The BoT chairman said the statement by the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, and other senators refuting the impeachment threat should be enough to put the matter to rest.

He enjoined the PDP caucus in the National Assembly to play politics of issues instead of focusing on individuals.

The meeting was attended by a former President of the Senate, Chief Adolphus Wabara; his erstwhile Deputy, Ibrahim Mantu; and a former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana and former Minister of Finance, Adamu Ciroma .

Others are – Jibrin, Senator Stella Omu, Taminu Turaki and Air Commodore Dan Suleiman (rtd), among others.

No lmpeachable Offence Against Buhari – Senate
Also, the Senate has cleared every form of doubt about the rumoured impeachment plan against President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Senate said that there is no impeachable offence against the president, hence there is no deliberation of impeachment by the house.

This was disclosed by Ali Ndume the leader of the Senate to newsmen in Abuja on Monday.

Ndume said the president had no impeachable offence on him and that it was not possible for the Senate to single handedly impeach the president.

He said the report by some media houses was baseless.

“The impeachment process is a National Assembly matter not Senate. Senate alone cannot impeach the president. It is the National Assembly that can impeach the president.

“It is the National Assembly and it is by a two-third majority and by clearly stating impeachable offences served on the person if he fails to respond.

“It is a long tedious process and in this country we don’t even need that; we are not even contemplating it.

“Even if anybody contemplates on it, it is not going to work because this is APC Senate; we have the majority. We don’t have a president that has issues of corruption, integrity or mismanagement.

“We have a president that is straight forward and he doesn’t have any mismanagement or abuse of due process,” he said.

Reacting to the allegations of budget padding in the House of Representatives, Ndume described the situation as unfortunate.

He said that it was wrong for any member of the House to resort to using the media to seek redress on any issue or for members to be fighting in the media.

“But I think they are going to work on it. I personally have been trying to reach out to both sides and we are working on that.

“There is nothing like budget padding; if it is the National Assembly that works on the budget, then you don’t call it padding.

“But if there are certain abnormalities in the budget and what transpired in the budget process which is now an appropriation Act, I think they know the right thing.

“We have a committee; if Rep. Jibrin is aggrieved he writes a petition or whatever and that should be referred to Ethics and Privileges which can do the investigation,” he said.
