The Sierra Leone Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Maj. Gen. Alfred Nelson (retd.) has been kidnapped along Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
The diplomat was abducted on Thursday by unknown persons while going to Kaduna to honour an invitation by the military for a programme.
It was learnt that efforts to reach the envoy on his GSM phone since Thursday by the Sierra Leonean embassy officials have proved abortive.
Reports say Nelson’s kidnappers are currently demanding a $40 million ransom.
Though it has not been officially verified, embassy workers said the kidnappers contacted the embassy almost immediately after the diplomat was abducted to demand $40 million for safe return.
Nelson was kidnapped along the Kaduna Road where Nigerian colonel, Samaila Inusa was kidnapped about three months ago.
Inusa’s body was found dumped on the roadside days later.
The police said Inusa’s abductors have been arrested.
