Huhuonline.com can authoritatively report that Super Eagles Coach Stephen Keshi has indicated that he will be staying in his job after he withdrew his resignation letter. Keshi resigned in anger a day after winning the African Cup of Nations and the unsavory development would have dented the national mood of celebrations as the victorious Eagles arrive in Abuja, today, Tuesday where they are expected to be received by President Goodluck Jonathan.
To which end, the President is said to have personally instructed the Minister of Sports to do everything in his power to ensure that Keshi rescinded the embarrassing decision which had taken the whole nation by surprise. Aso sources told Huhuonline.com that Jonathan spoke with Keshi over the phone before the delegation left South Africa at 8:45 am local time en route to Abuja, Nigeria where they would be treated to a State reception hosted by Jonathan.
A terse statement bearing Keshi’s name and signature obtained by Huhuonline.com from Nigerian Football Federation’s (NFF) media officer, Ademola Olajire read in part: “My attention has been drawn to reports in the media that I have resigned my appointment as the Head Coach of Super Eagles of Nigeria.
“While I have had cause to express my displeasure over some issues that happened in the course of our participation in the AFCON 2013, which my team won by the grace of God, especially concerning my relationship with the Nigerian Football Federation, I have since had opportunity to discuss the various issues with all concerned. I am therefore pleased to say that I have reconsidered my position and have decided to continue with my job. “I want to thank the Honourable Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, for his swift and kind intervention.”
