For the Bishop of Kaduna Arch-Diocese of the Anglican Church, Most Reverend Timothy Yahaya, nothing can convince him and his likes that the current fight against corruption embarked upon by President Muhammadu Buhari is not selective and lopsided.
The Bishop said this on Sunday during the Easter service in his Arch-Diocese to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
According to the Bishop, the anti-corruption fight is nothing other than an action targeted only at the opposition party in Nigeria, in this case, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Yahaya further accused Buhari of impunity and human rights abuses in the course of the fight against corruption in the country.
Speaking during the service, he said the President should give the anti-corruption fight a better face since the it is not supposed to be an opportunity to hound a selected few from one political party or region into detention, but to make sure that all those found guilty of looting public funds are brought to justice irrespective of their party, religion or ethnic affiliations and status.
The Bishop however noted that corruption was endemic in the country and was the reason for the high rate of poverty, hunger and unemployment in the country adding that this was perpetrated by those in leadership positions.
He wondered how such leaders could steal without conscience.
He urged the federal and state governments to tackle unemployment and poverty in order to improve the lives of the citizens.
He pleaded with politicians to ensure they met their campaign promises to the people so as to lift hopes that Nigeria would be great again instead of acting in ways that could only cause disappointments.
He urged the leaders to use the Easter celebrations to share, love and care to the masses just as Jesus did.
