Minister of Transportation and former governor or Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, and the current Governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, crossed the line on Sunday when they met at the Mile One police station in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital as collation of the tension-soaked election rerun in the state continued into Sunday.

The duo blew hot at each other threatening and cursing in a confrontation that caused serious tension in the area.

The arch-rivals had stormed the police station after learning of the arrest of Mrs. Ekwi Adebisa, the collation officer for Ward 10, Port Harcourt Local Government Area, who had gone missing with the result sheet for the Saturday election in the ward.

There had been a frantic search for her by loyalists of the two major parties in the election, the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress.

Immediately they learnt of her arrest, the two, leading their teams, stormed the station.

Amaechi went with Dakuku Peterside, Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Safety Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA); Davis Ikanya; Ibim Semenitari, Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and some APC officials.

Wike came in company of Senator Thomson George Sekibo, Hon. Azubuike Nmerekini, Hon. Ken Chikere, Hon. Austin Apara, Hon. Victor Ihunwo aka Vokor, and others.

Once they saw, both sides engaged in a shouting match before the police stepped in, meeting the two groups behind closed doors.

But in a different perspective to the incident, Adebayo Johnson, the Director, Field Reports of the Independent Election Watchdog, said Wike, along with his Government House police officers had stormed the Mile One Police Station to allegedly hijack results of the Port Harcourt City LGA, where APC reportedly won overwhelmingly by 15000 votes.

“However, the DPO of Mile One Police Station handled the matter in a notable professional manner. He politely asked the Governor and his troop of supporters to desist from coming into the Police Station where election results sheets were domiciled.

“The Governor was speechless, he shrugged so many times, but surprisingly couldn’t utter a single word. After few minutes of showing strange and quiet gestures, he turned around and left with his visibly discouraged followers.

“So far, collation is ongoing in RACs across Rivers State. Apart from Opobo/Nkoro and Ikwerre, INEC has not announced winners in the remaining 20 LGAs as of the time of filing this report. Security is also fairly stable this morning across the state,” he said.
