Some senators on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday denied the allegation that they were working against the success of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The senators were part of the 81 who sponsored and supported the vote of confidence passed on Senate President Bukola Saraki and other principal officers of the Senate.

There were reports early Thursday that these senators were working against the success of the President by joining forces with the opposition to pass the vote of confidence on Saraki, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, who is from the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The reports had specifically named 22 senators from the northern part of Nigeria as part of this group.

These 22 included Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who promoted the motion; Abdul A.M. Nyako; Isah Hamma Misau; Kabiru Gaya; Adamu Aliero; Abdullahi Adamu; David Umaru; Ahmed Rufa’I Sani; Tijjani Yahaya Kaura; Ahmadu Abubakar, Malam A. Wakili, Abubakar Kyari; Sabo Mohammed; Dino Melaye; Abdulrahman Abubakar; Binta Masi Garba; Mohammed Goje; Muhammad U. Shitu; Salihu H. Egye and Aliyu S. Abdullahi.

But at a press conference on Thursday, the senators, led by the Chairman,  Senate ad-hoc committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Dino Melaye, denied the report and said the report which described them as anti – Buhari, was wicked, satanic and unacceptable.

Melaye said the report was biased because the senators had all resolved even before the general elections, to work with Buhari, adding that the actual enemies of the President were those who sponsored the publication to create bad blood and an unconducive atmosphere that could result in disunity.

Melaye said against what the report said, the leadership of the eighth Senate and its members were resolute on helping the President achieve success and better the country and its people.

Also, Senator Mohammed Shittu from Jigawa North East, went spiritual reciting some verses in the Quran to lay curses on the those who allegedly masterminded the publication, adding that those who summoned senators to the International Conference Centre on the day of inauguration, were actually Buhari’s enemies.

In her view, Senator Binta Garba representing Adamawa North, said linking her with a plot to destabilise the government of Buhari was mischievous as she and her people are supporting Buhari in the fight against Boko Haram in the North-eastern part of the country.

She said if she goes against Buhari, her father, who was the driver of General Muhammadu Buhari when he was in the military, would never forgive her.

“It is not possible for me to work against him,” she said.

The press conference preceded an earlier resolve by the Senate to investigate the publication, the publisher and reporter of the story through its Committee on Ethics and Privileges.

The Senate agreed to this resolution after Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, raised the issue and accused Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of APC and owner of The Nation newspaper, as being behind the sponsorship of the story and a protest from Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of Tinubu against Ndume’s alleged offensive statement.
