Former Vice President, Dr Alex Ekwueme, on Sunday appealed to Nigerians to give President Muhammadu Buhari the opportunity to actually sanitise the country.
Ekwueme, who spoke at a thanksgiving ceremony of former National Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) , Chief Victor Umeh, noted that the tasks before the President were much but that he needed the support and patience of the people of the country and therefore, should not be rushed into taking hasty decisions.
According to Ekwueme, every leader has his own style, but the most important thing is to get the right results, ensure peace, stability and unity of the country.
But the former Vice President expressed reservations concerning the political appointments so far made by the President saying they did not meet the spirit of the Nigerian federal character.
The constitution of Nigeria, according to him, requires the President to observe federal character in appointments, considering the six geopolitical zones in the country.
He urged Umeh to continue to be a worthy son to the Igbo people as he had made the South-East zone of the country proud.
On his own, Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State said his victory at the election could be attributed to the efforts of Umeh and former Governor Peter Obi.
He however expressed sadness that Obi left the APGA to the PDP.
He promised to work to ensure the return of those who defected from the party as he would ensure the party is strengthened.
While recounting his experience as APGA chairman, Umeh said he faced a tough time as in the saddle as the party faced various crises during his era as chairman.
At a time, he said, the party had 43 law suits, but won all during the period just as he advised the new national chairman of the party, Victor Oye, to continue to strengthen the party.
