Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa has dissolved board of the State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPPADEC).
The dissolution was announced on Tuesday in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Festus Agas.
The dissolution take effect immediately.
Board members of the dissolved commission were directed to handover all government property including vehicles in their possession to the commission’s secretary, the statement said.
It is believed that the dissolution is connected with the governor’s plan to strengthen the DESOPADEC law with a determination to structure it in line with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) model through an amendment of the bill.
According to his inaugural speech, Okowa’s aim is to sustain and deepen the policy of less dependency on oil and lay a solid foundation for economic growth and infrastructural development. It is believed that this move is one in that direction.
