Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero has been attacked within the Kano metropolis by unidentified gunmen who ended up killing his driver and three of his aides, Huhuonline.com can report.
The incident happened on Saturday afternoon around Zoo Road while the traditional ruler was returning to his palace from the Murtala Mosque where he attended a Quranic recitation competition. Once the attackers who rode on a motorcycle neared the car in which the Emir was being chauffeured, they opened fire on him. However, he was saved by the duo of his driver, popularly called Barde, and his orderly, who were said to have formed a wall around him and received the several shots targeted at him. They died instantly while the Emir’s first son and Ciroman Kano, was seriously injured as he received some shots, too.
Although one source said three of the Emir’s aides died in the attack, another source claimed that the number could be more because so many palace guards accompanied him to the event and were with him at the time of the attack.
“Currently, I can’t give you the exact figure now,” the source said. “But I know there are more casualties than from the attack. The Emir was not hurt in the incident and he was immediately whisked to the palace by those palace guards who survived the tragedy.”
