A new set of national and state officers would emerge in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on Saturday, Huhuonline.com can authoritatively reveal.
These set of officers would include a replacement for the current National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh, whose second-term national leadership of the party ends on June 10.
The new officers would be elected at a convention which would hold at the Women Development Centre in Awka, the capital of Anambra State on Saturday with hopes that the party would be more united and strengthened for the future challenges.
Part of this plan was revealed on Friday by the Special Adviser on Political Matters to Governor Willy Obiano of Anambra State, Chinedu Obidigwe.
Obigwe explained that all was set to ensure that the party held a successful convention and be an example of what internal democracy should be.
He added that APGA was determined to provide good governance in every area of its influence and that it would prove this with the convention that is expected to be rancour-free.
Former Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and also resigned as the party’s Board of Trustees chairman towards the 2015 general election.
Since then, the leadership of the party had fallen on Governor Obiano, who Obidigwe said was glad to have the privilege to host the party’s national convention in the state capital.
Also speaking about the convention, the immediate past chairman of the party in Anambra State, Mike Kwentoh, expressed hope that the convention would be peaceful and the elction would be free and fair.
Kwentoh stepped down for Nobert Obi, who is waiting to be formally declared as the party’s chairman in the state at the convention.
On his part, Obi said: “we are ready for that national convention here in Awka, it is our hope that it will be successful. The leadership of the party at both the national and state levels have done marvellously well in holding the party together in times of serious turbulence.
“For those who think they want to move to other political parties, we advise that they should exercise caution, APGA is a great party.”
