The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has announced the expulsion of 20 of its top members including Senator Ifeanyi Ararume.

Others include Jerry Chukwueke, Humphrey Anumudu, Gibson A. Njemanze (Oyiga), C. Y. Amako, Azubuike Ekwegh, J.I.J Njoku and Stan Nzekwe, Kingsley Ononuju, Ethelbert Okere, Jones Uzoka, Nkem Nwankwo, Independence Ogunewe, Prof. Nnamdi Obiaraeri, Bethel Zimako, a Lawyer, Ogbuagu Celestine Uwakwe, Dr. J. C. N. Harcourt, Sunny Heart Ibe and Jephy Ojinika.

They were expelled for alleged anti-party activities during and after the 2015 general elections.

There had been crisis in the party in Imo State during the elections and this is partly regarded as reason for the party’s defeat during the exercise.

A statement by the party chairman in the state, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie, said their expulsion followed the conclusion of a full-scale investigation in which the affected members were found guilty of the allegation.

The statement read: “after a full and exhaustive deliberation on the reports of the activities of the underlisted persons against the interest of our great party in the just-concluded general elections whose actions openly evidenced gross anti-party activities, the state executive committee at its meeting of Monday, May 24, 2015 accepts the report and recommendations and accordingly expels the under-listed from the party.”

At the time of this report, none of the expelled member of the party had reacted.

But an aide to Ararume told Huhuonline.com that the former senator has two options.

“He is contemplating between joining another party and appealing the expulsion by heading to the court,” the aide said.

“We still have time to decide.”
