The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said the raid on Prince Buruju Kashamu homes is sequel to a formal request for extradition received from the Embassy of the United States of America pending the arraignment of Senator-elect, Prince. Buruju Kashamu before the Federal High Court on Monday, May 25th, 2015.

As huhuonline.com previously reported, officials of the NDLEA , Saturday, placed Prince. Prince Buruji Kashamu, senator-elect from Ogun State under house arrest in Lagos.

In a statement issued by Ofoyeju Mitchell, Head, Public Affairs of the NDLEA, and made available to huhuonline.com, the agency said that Prince Buruji Kashamu has been a target of both the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for more than 20 years. hE was indicted in the Northern District of Illinois, United States on charges brought against him by ICE.

The Senator-elect, who U.S. court documents allege was known in his days  as the leader of a prolific heroin trafficking ring based in Chicago, Illinois as “God,” “Daddy,” and “Kasmal,” is wanted to stand trial on charges of conspiracy and importation of controlled substances, namely heroin, into the United States dating back to 1994.

Kashamu Threatens To Commit Suicide, as Fayose Reacts

As officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) closed in on him on Saturday, Buruji Kashamu, the fugitive Senator-elect of Ogun East has threatened to commit suicide.

He said he would rather remain in house arrest till Monday when the court is expected to act on a case against his extradition.

He further said he would rather kill himself than allow the officials to take him away accusing Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his wife, Roli, of plotting his arrest to score cheap political gains.

Meanwhile, Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has dismissed the statement being credited to him concerning Kashamu’s travails in the hands of men of the NDLEA.

Earlier reports claimed that Fayose warned that nothing must happen to Kashamu, who he described as a great Yoruba son and patriotic Nigerian adding that his arrest would have dire implication on the relationship between Yoruba people and the incoming Buhari Government.

The report claimed that Fayose accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of being the brain behind the attempted kidnap of a great Nigerian by a foreign government.

But the governor, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said the comment must have been generated by desperate political spin doctors to link him with what he knew nothing about.

The statement read; “Kindly disregard any press statement being circulated that I made on Prince Buruji Kashamu today.

“I have not made any press statement on the travail of Buruji Kashamu today both on Twitter and Facebook or any social media platform.

“Obviously, the comment being referred to was generated by desperate political spin doctors with ulterior motives and their motive must be to drag me into what does not concern me as a governor.

“For all intent and purposes, the issue relating to Prince Buruji Kashamu is not political and I, as a governor, do not have anything to do with it.”

Bode George Behind My Current Travail, Says Kashamu

Embattled Ogun State Senator-elect, Prince Buruji Kashamu, on Saturday accused Chief Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his wife, Roli, as currently persecuting him to score cheap political points.

Kashamu, a leader of the PDP in the South West, accused George of using Roli, who is the Chairman of the NDLEA, to seek his arrest.

It was learnt that while some officials of the NDLEA stormed one of Kashamu’s houses in Ogun State, another set of officials stormed his house in the Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos State to effect his arrest.

Though Kashamu had not been arrested at the time of this report, a statement signed by his media aide, Austin Oniyokor, said: “This latest onslaught is a confirmation of the alleged plot to illegally abduct him in spite of the pending suit against this illegality.

“As a matter of fact, the court has ordered parties in the matter including the NDLEA to maintain status quo until judgment is delivered on Wednesday 27th May 2015.

“We have confirmed that they do not have a warrant of arrest, just as the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice has said that it did not give any order to carry out this illegality.

“We have confirmed that this illegality is being designed and executed by Chief Bode George whose wife is the Director General of the NDLEA, all in a bid to score cheap political points.

“We urge all well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on NDLEA, Chief George and his wife to toe the path of the rule of law and follow due process.

“Nigeria is not a Banana republic! The United States being the bastion of democracy, the rule of law and due process should not lend itself to this kind of illegality.”
