A total of seven new Sharia courts were built in the Jigawa State in 2012, the Jigawa State government has disclosed. Making the disclosure on Thursday, the state government said the move was aimed at improving the administration of justice in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the state government in Dutse, the state capital, Chief Registrar of the Sharia Court of Appeal, Alhaji Bala Musa explained that the action of the government would increase the number of courts and enhance access to justice in rural communities.

Reiterating that the state government had implemented several developmental projects within the year in review with the intention of changing the face of the legal system, he pledged that the focus of legal policies this year would be alleviation of the burden of the common man.

According to Musa, “Jigawa is a very wide state and we have people spread across the nook and crannies of the state. “By bringing the court closer to them, you are alleviating the burden of having to travel over long distances.”

He added that part of this burden relates to the challenge of filing cases at the courts. To this end, the state would provide five more courts this year, he confirmed.
