The Akwa Ibom State National Assembly caucus, which is made of all the legislators at the National Assembly from the state, has called for the cancellation of the governorship and House of Assembly elections held in the state on 11th April.
The caucus said the exercise was more of war instigated against the people by the state governor rather than an exercise in which the people should be free to perform their civic responsibility.
The legislators cut across various political parties, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to reschedule the election since there was actually no election in the state on the day of the exercise.
To them, it was a day of writing results in the state without consideration for the electorate.
Akwa Ibom state was one of the troubled states during the election with extreme levels of electoral violence witnessed in various areas of the state.
Also, a former Governor of the state, Obong Victor Attah, and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Don Etiebet, had also earlier raised the same concern, calling for the cancellation of the exercise.
The caucus, led by Senator Aloysius Etuk, told journalists on Wednesday that they were all dissatisfied with the way the exercise went in their state as it was shamefully characterised by irregularities and violence.
Etuk said the exercise in his state was the most traumatising of the election held across the country.
In his own reaction, Senator Ita Enag, a member of the caucus, complained that the exercise was more of a war situation as the State Governor, Godswill Akpabio prepared for war against the people who prepared to vote.
While no card reader was used during the election, Enang said the state had a high number of fake security officials on the day of the exercise.
Even in areas where the elections held, there were no result sheets to table the results.
It was also alleged that the result sheets were with some people somewhere and figures were being manipulated.
The Senator further lamented the proliferation of arms in the state as a result of the election and appealed to the police to disarm people in illegal possession of arms.
