The Department of State Security (DSS) has assured Nigerians that it is looking in to the threat issued against Igbos living in Lagos by the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, and appropriate measures will be taken soon.

The assurance was given by DSS’ Spokesperson, Marylyn Ogar in Abuja on Wednesday during a question and answer session with journalists at the National Information Centre.

The DSS spokesperson also warned Nigerians that while the investigation is ongoing, people should desist from fanning the embers of discord within the country.

“If the presidential election had come and gone successfully, we wouldn’t want people to begin to wipe up sentiments unnecessarily. So we are handling it,” Ogar said.

The Co-coordinator, National Information Centre, Mike Omeri while also commenting about the more than 200 girls that were kidnapped from their hostels at the Government Girls Secondary School Chibok, Borno State on 15th April 2014; assured that work is seriously going on to find the girls.

“The search for the Chibok girls continues and that is why even with the capture of Bama and the rest, the military has not retreated,” Omeri said.

“Again, until it is concluded, we cannot believe speculative conclusions. The assurance that I give you is that everywhere is being combed.”

Omeri also assured that everything that would make the forthcoming governorship election a success and without any violence is being put in place.

“As efforts are being made to ensure a hitch-free exercise, the NIC wishes to reassure Nigerians, especially those living in communities that recently experienced some security challenges arising from the activities of Boko Haram resurgence, that our military and security forces are, more than ever, very ready to ensure the protection of lives and property, while securing the country’s territorial integrity,” Omeri said.
