Gombe is one of the few places that the Boko Haram militants have not brought completely under their authority in the north-eastern region of the country.
However, bombings targeting crowded areas have been increasing in the area since last year.
Currently, the Nigerian Military and multinational troops are battling to root out the known bases of the militant group ahead of Nigeria’s general election which was initially scheduled for 14th and 28th April.
The election was postponed in order to allow the military action against the militants to take good effect.
