Gbolahan, son of a former Minister of Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, will on February 27, 2024 stand before a judge of the Federal High Court, Lagos, Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa, over an alleged N1.3 billion fraud.
Gbolahan will stand trial along with four others, Adejare Adegbenro, 51; Balmoral International Limited; M. O. B. Integrated Limited and DDSS International Company Limited.
Huhuonline.com reports that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) through the office of the police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) Ikoyi, Lagos, alleged that all the defendants had, between May and September 2013 in Lagos, fraudulently obtained the sum of N1,356,057,330.43 billion from Access Bank Plc formerly Diamond Bank.
To get the funds, the police alleged that Gbolahan and others falsely presented themselves to the staff and officers of the bank as business people who were into importation of cara from Dubai.
They also allegedly gave the impression that the money was the cost of financing the importation of a set of brand new cars from Dubai to restock their business for purchases by their customers.
However, after obtaining the facility, they were said to have converted it for personal use.
At the resumed hearing of the matter, the prosecutor, M. Y. Bello, informed the court that the case was slated for the arraignment of all the defendants. He then sought the court’s nod for another date to enable all the defendants be in court to take their plea on the charges against them.
But the counsel to the defendants, Joshua A., told the court that his clients were out of the country and that only the companies named in the charge were served.
He assured the court that all the defendants would be in court at the next adjourned date, to take their plea on the charges.
