There was confusion on Tuesday night after a very loud explosion was heard in the city of Ibadan, Oyo state.

 

It was gathered that several houses were shaken by the explosion, which caused damage at multiple locations, according to an X users.

The  X user, @WillieWinehouse tweeted, “A f***ing bomb just exploded in Ibadan! My entire house and street are in ruins!! What is going on!!”

 

Motunrayo Adegboro, another resident of Barika, about 15 minutes away from the site of the blast in Ibadan confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Tuesday night.

 

She said, “Some people claimed it was a gas explosion while others said it was a filling station.

 

“It happened in Bodija. A mall, Ace Mall even collapsed.”

 

Also, the Oyo State Government has confirmed the incident, describing it as an  ” uncommon explosion”, but urged citizens to calm down and be rest assured that their interests are being looked after.”

 

Prince Dotun Oyelade, the state commissioner for Information and Orientation, in a  press statement sent to huhuoonline.com, said, “Residents of Ibadan and immediate environ experienced an uncommon explosion about 8pm this evening.”

 

“There are various interpretations of the incident but it is important for us to state categorically that the state government has taken over and in full control of the unfortunate occurrence in order to mitigate the incident.”

 

“All security service chiefs including para military chiefs and Fire Operatives have been deployed by the governor to Reign in the spillover from the explosion.” 

 

“His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde therefore implores citizens to calm down and be rest assured that their interests are being looked after.”

 

Tinubu Commiserates With Oyo State Govt, Victims Over Ibadan Explosion

 

President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the devastating explosion that occurred on Tuesday night in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

 

The explosion killed two persons and wounded about 80 others. It also destroyed several buildings, vehicles, and other properties. 

 

“It is worrisome that the cause of the blast is being attributed to the activities of illegal miners. Those behind the inexcusable and reckless behaviour that has created the conditions for the sad incident to occur must be fished out and punished,” the President said.

 

President Tinubu commiserated with the government and people of Oyo State and called on all concerned agencies of government to unravel the circumstances that led to the tragedy with alacrity.

 

The President directs the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to work with the Oyo State Government to offer immediate and comprehensive relief to the victims.
