Alhaji Sani Ahmed Toro, a former Secretary-General of the Nigeria Football Association, who was kidnapped last Saturday, has been released, sources say.
Details of his release are still sketchy, but sources say he and two others were released Monday night and has been reunited with his family in Bauchi.
Toro was kidnapped along with Garba Iliya, a former Golden Eagles Assistant Coach, along the Jos-Bauchi road. They were on their way back to Bauchi after attending the wedding ceremony of the son of a former NFF Chairman, Alhaji Aminu Maigari in Abuja on Friday.
The kidnappers were said to have demanded a ransom of N150m, but sources say the amount was reduced to N30m, but it was clear if the ransom was paid before their release.
Nigeria is going through its worst peace-time insecurity with bands of bandits, terrorists, and other criminal gangs roaming the highways, forests, and farmlands, where they kidnap people for ransom. People who resist kidnapping are usually killed by gangs.
