Governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have proposed five presidential aspirants to participate at today’s primary, the National newspaper has reported.

The governor of Plateau State, Simon Lilongwe, made the disclosure to journalists in Abuja, saying it was done based on the reality on ground and without bias and sentiments, the pro-Tinubu newspaper said.

According to the paper, those shortlisted for the Primaries are Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chibuike Amaechi, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Dave Umahi, and Kayode Fayemi.

They are all from the South.

The Governor explained that President Muhammadu Buhari had asked the Progressives Governors’ Forum to reduce the number of aspirants and submit their names to the party, according to the paper.

The five aspirants were also advised to discuss among themselves and agree on one candidate, the governor added, the paper said.

Abdullahi  Adamu, APC National Chairman  had caused a stir in the party on Monday when he announced that the party had adopted Senate President, Ahmad Lawal, as the consensus candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

President Buhari denied the report, saying he had not anointed any candidate for the party.
