A yet-to-be-identified Nigerian Policeman who literarily put his life on the line has emerged as a national hero for his rare display of gallantry in the St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo terror attack on Sunday.
A video that has gone viral shows the bravery of the policeman, to the admiration of Nigerians.
As one of the attackers, obviously on guard with his gun outside the church, readied his Ak-47 rifle, the tall, lanky policeman emerges from nowhere, leaps and hits the terrorist on the neck, knocking him to the ground.
The gallant officer then began to wrestle with the attacker, who was still clutching to his gun on the floor, as the officer lay over him.
As they struggled, youths rushed out and joined the fray. Some punched the terrorist, who was still holding the policeman, but as more youths joined, they overpowered him.
The officer manages to wriggle himself out of the clutch of the terrorists, but holds his waist, showing obvious wounds to him from the brawl. Even as the officer tries to extricate himself, the attacker still manages to give him a kick.
More helpers arrive and one youth manages to snatch the gun from the attacker, who is now swarmed by a horde of youths, some punching him, one pulling him by his leg.
