As the search for the successor to President Muhammadu Buhari gathers steam, the Southern Governors Forum has asked the All Progressives Congress to rotate power to the South, while keeping the presidency.
This message to the party came from the chairman of the Forum and governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu.
President Buhari had earlier in the week asked the governors on the platform of the party to assist him in the choice of a consensus candidate to fly APC’s flag in next year’s presidential election.
APC governors have begun the task of finding the consensus candidate, but reports from their meeting on Wednesday indicated they had not agreed on any candidate, while the meeting was said to have been postponed to later this week.
APC has scheduled its Presidential Primary for Monday, June 6, 2022, at which its presidential candidate will be announced.
In a short message on his Facebook page on Thursday, the Ondo State governor restated a position held by the Southern governor’s forum, which is that power should be returned to the South, after the tenure of President Buhari, who is a northerner.
“APC must work to retain power. We must rotate power to retain power !!! Rotate to the South. Shikena,” Akeredolu wrote.
