The Nigerian government on Wednesday announced an indefinite suspension of Ahmed Idris, the Accountant General of the Federation, who has been accused of alleged N80 billion fraud.
His suspension was announced by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed.
His suspension was announced through a letter dated May 18, 2022, in which Ahmed said the suspension was “without pay” and was to allow for “proper and unhindered investigation” in line with public service rules.
Idris has been arrested by Nigeria’s anti-graft organization, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
President Muhammadu Buhari says fighting corruption is a major pillar of his administration’s agenda.
