Reports have emerged that two of the ten Ministers who had indicated their interest to pursue political office positions made a U-turn at the last moment when President Muhammadu Buhari organised a valedictory session for them.

The two ministers are Dr. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, and Abubakar Malami, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation.

President Buhari had on Wednesday asked members of his cabinet and other government appointees who had political ambitions to resign before or by May 16, 2023.

Ngige had declared interest in the presidency, while Malami wanted to be governor of his State, Kebbi.

Announcing his change of mind, Ngige said in a statement  that “I took this momentous decision firstly in the overall interest of the nation in order to enable me to concentrate on my job and assist the president and the government; and secondly, for other family reasons.”

On his part, Malami told Vanguard newspaper  that “I have not resigned as the Attorney General of the Federation but have only withdrawn from the Kebbi governorship race.”
