A coalition made up of various groups on Saturday purchased copies of the Nomination and Expression of Interest forms for the President of the African Development Bank and former Minister of Agriculture, Dr Akiwumi Adesina to vie for the 2023 presidency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
The coalition consists of 28 groups, including Youth Arise Movement, Nigerians in Diaspora One Nigeria Group, Prudent Youth Association of Nigeria, women groups, farmers, people with disabilities, and other civil society groups, raised the N100 million fee to purchase the forms for the former minister.
There have been speculations of Adesina joining the presidential race, with reports that top-ranking members of the APC have been mounting pressure on him to contest.
The purchase of the forms for Adesina came a day after a group of farmers and other associates bought the same forms for the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
However, in his reaction on Saturday, Emefiele said he was yet to take a decision on the matter. He said he needed a few days to make up his mind and that, should decide to run, he would purchase the forms with his own money earned from banking careers of over 35 years.
