The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has said that it is set to conduct drug tests on politicians seeking to hold public offices in the country.
To this end, the Chairman and Chief Executive of the agency, Brig-Gen Buba Marwa (rtd), has written to the Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Sen Abdullahi Adamu, requesting that NDLEA officials be given access to conduct drugs integrity tests for APC members contesting for various offices on the party’s platform.
APC plans to hold its presidential primaries between May 30 and June 1, 2022.
The NDLEA chairman said that the agency would do the same with the People’s Democratic Party when its turn to hold its prairies comes.
Marwa disclosed this during the 1st quarter award ceremony of the agency which was held in Abuja. He explained that the drug test had become imperative in view of the need to ensure that politicians who occupy key national offices do not divert public funds into the purchase of harmful drugs.
