Eminent Nigerians and leaders of different apex socio-cultural organisations, on Monday in Abuja, implored Nigerian leaders at all levels to refrain from an undue politicisation of matters relating to the security of lives and property, saying that doing so won’t do the nation any good.

Rather, it would aggravate the already fragile situation in the country, they warned.

The leaders pointed out that the warning had become necessary as part of efforts to bring peace to Nigeria and stop aggravating the already fragile situation in the country.

The elders asked the Nigerian elites to desist from words that could enlarge the “gulf of trust deficit amongst the many divides” that make up the country.

According to them, Nigeria’s survival as a nation should be considered sacred.

Jointly led by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad, and others, the Elders gave the warning in speeches at a one-day ‘Retreat on inclusive security organized by the Global Peace Foundation in collaboration with Vision Africa.
