Unknown Gunmen in the early hours of Friday (today) killed the traditional ruler of Atta ancient kingdom in the Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, Edwin Azike.

Azike was abducted from his palace late on Thursday and his dead body was found dumped inside a car at the market square in the community on Friday morning.

Those who kidnapped him were said to have numbered over 10, who shot sporadically until they took him away in a waiting vehicle.

His killing is yet another episode in a long list of attacks on traditional rulers in Imo, which has become the hotbed of the fight between the government and the Indigenous People of Biafra and its military wing, the Eastern Security Network.

In a similar attack, gunmen on Thursday whisked away Eze Damian Nwaigwe, the traditional ruler of the Mbutu Ancient Kingdom in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of the state.

The monarch, who was taken away from his palace at about 2:30 am, is yet to be found.

About three weeks ago, on November 20, 2021,  Henry Madumere, the traditional ruler of Achi Mbieri in the Mbaitoli LGA, was also kidnapped at Iho in Ikeduru LGA. He was released six weeks later.
