Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists on Monday marched to the Police Headquarters to protest the missing of their colleague, Tordue Salem.
Salem, National Assembly correspondent for Vanguard, has been missing for 13 days.
At the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the journalist asked the Inspector-General of Police, IG, Usman Alkali Baba, questions about the whereabouts of their colleague.
Some of the placards they carried read: ‘Free Tordue now’, ‘Enough is enough’, ‘Stop violence against journalists’, ‘Free the press,’ ‘Journalists’ lives matter’ among others.
The journalist was last seen on October 13 when he left for the National Assembly from his sister’s residence, where he slept on the night of October 12. He was last seen by his colleagues at the National Assembly at about 4 pm and 5 pm on October 13.
Two days later, Tordue’s disappearance was reported to the IGP, who was reported to have said that no effort would be spared to locate his whereabouts.
Emmanuel Ogbeche, Chairman of NUJ, chapter in the Federal Capital Territory said the journalists’ demand was simply for the IGP Baba to come and state what the Force was doing about Tordue’s disappearance.
According to him, the Police must deploy the full complement of their resources to locate the missing journalist alive.
