The opposition People’s Democratic Party has cautioned the Federal Government over the threat to slam a state of Emergency on  Anambra State.

Abubakar Malami the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice dropped hint in Abuja Wednesday that the government did not rule out the possibility of imposing an emergency Anambra to ensure the governorship election slated for November 6 holds, despite the spate of attacks in that state.

Responding to the threat, PDP said the was a ploy by the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government to cow the people of the state, manipulate the process and rig the election in favour of APC’s candidate.

IPDP’s position was contained in a statement issued by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan. It asked the government to disclose its role in the rise in the sudden rise in violence in Anambra state just before the election. The statement says:

“This demand is predicated on apprehensions in the public space that the spate of insecurity in Anambra is contrived to heighten tension in the state so as to derail the democratic process to the advantage of the APC.

“The PDP insists that the federal government has the capacity to ensure peace in Anambra before, during, and even after the election, if it so desired.  We, therefore, invite President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC Federal Government to be guided accordingly.

“Our party also charges the people of Anambra state to remain calm and alert as well as take steps within the ambits of the law to resist plots by the APC to derail the electoral process in its inordinate ambition to seize Anambra through the back door.”

Anambra is ruled by the All Progressives Grand Alliance, with Willie Obiano as the governor.
