The doctors will resume work at 8 am on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, the President of the association said Monday, bringing an end to the strike action that began on August 2 this year.

But the association said it has given the Federal Government six weeks to fulfill its demands, explaining that after that it would call a meeting of the National Executive Council to decide on the next steps to be taken by the association.

NARD has embarked on the strike to press home its demands for the government to pay the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF),  outstanding salaries to its members on GIFMIS platform, and  the withdrawal of a circular by the Head of Service which removed House Officers from the Scheme of Service.

They also demanded the payment of death-in-service benefits to its members who lost their lives while on duty during the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to other demands.

The announcement comes barely eight days after the doctors elongated their demands and asked the government to meet them with 72 hours.

To end the strike, NARD had declare that the government must their demands which also include payment of their salaries which were in August and September, withdrawal of the case against it in court, payment of salary arrears and allowances owed its members in state tertiary health institutions.

The doctors made the demands in a communiqué issued at the end of their 41st Annual General Meeting held in Bauchi State on Saturday, September 25.
