Following the controversy surrounding the loss of lives at Lekki Tollgate during the,

A forensic company, Sentinel Forensic Limited, has declared that the live ammunition used during the EndSARS protest on Friday, October 20, 2020 at the Lekki Tollgate were discovered to have been registered to the Nigerian Army.

This declaration was made before the Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution set up to unravel details of the shooting that took place during the protest by a representative of the company, Joseph Kayode Funsho.

Funsho spoke in his testimony before the Panel in Lagos on Friday.

The forensic expert declared however that the empty shells at the scene did not match the records from the Nigerian Army’s inventory, a finding that seems to contradict the claims of the Nigerian Army.

Following controversies surrounding the event, the Commander of the 81 Military Intelligence Brigade, in Lagos, Brigadier Ahmed Taiwo, had said before the panel that only blank bullets containing gunpowder were fired at the Lekki Tollgate on October 20.

The commander had also declared that the military at the scene only fired into the air and not directly at the #EndSARS protesters.

The General had claimed that the blank bullets used cannot cause any damage to humans, but explained that if real bullets were used, each of them had the capability to kill three persons at one shot.

The panel’s sitting continues on Saturday, September 11.
