The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday arrested a former governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji, a sitting Senator, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Orjii was arrested at about 10 am at the airport, from where he was taken to the agency’s headquarters for interrogation.
He and his two sons, Chinedu and Ogbonna have been on EFCC’s radar over allegations of financial misappropriation during Theodore’s eight-year tenure as governor. The amount has been put at about N551 billion.
The former governor along Chinedu are being interrogated by the anti-graft agency. Chinedu is the current Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly.
It was learnt that upon hearing of his father’s arrest, Chinedu submitted himself to the EFCC later on Thursday afternoon.
Other issues that have featured against the former first family of Abia State include the alleged embezzlement of N500 million monthly security vote he received for during his tenue, and mismanagement of N2bn Ecological Fund and conversion of Sure-P funds.
