A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted bail to the detained 12 associates of Sunday Igboho, the Yoruba nation agitator.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu granted eight of the aides, whose bail application was not challenged by the Department of State Services (DSS), bail at N5million each.
The remaining four were granted bail at N10million each.
Justice Egwuatu also ordered each of the detainees to produce two sureties and directed they should remain in the custody of the DSS until they are able to meet the bail conditions.
Counsel for the detainees, Pelumi Olajengbesi had prayed the court to admit them to bail unconditionally.
He noted that the detainees had spent 34 days in the custody of the DSS and were yet to be brought to the court for any offence.
He argued that their continued detention violated the provisions of the constitution and was an infringement on their fundamental human right. According to him, the DSS does not need to as many as 34 days to investigate persons it claimed were involved in gunrunning.
